Exploring Anxiety & Depression

This is a self-help support group for people suffering from anxiety or depression.

Professional and experienced speakers will help us to look at the causes and consequences of anxiety and depression, and at various ways of combatting these conditions. There is also ample time for discussion. The course seeks to provide helpful perspectives in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, but does not provide counselling or therapy.

Next course starts on Wednesday 26 September 2018.

What's Involved
We start at 7.45 pm, hear a short talk and then have a small group discussion, though you don't have to say anything if you don't want to. There is a break in the middle for coffee and cake. The course is free, based on Christian principles, open to everyone and lasts ten weeks.
Although we deal with difficult issues we find that during the evening there is a lot of laughter and people have a good time.

Getting there
Many people find it hard to come to the first evening but after that they look forward to it and by the end of the course they have made really good friends.

What people have said
"I now know that am not alone."
"The chocolate cake was great!”
“The best thing was being able to share experiences and get to know others in the same boat.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the group held?
At St Paul’s, 15 Northey Avenue, Cheam, SM2 7HS.  The church by the roundabout.

I don’t think I could talk about it. Do I have to talk?

You don’t have to say anything in the group time if you don’t want to. We provide a very safe place in which people can talk but it is always their choice.
Can I leave before the end of the course if I want to?
Yes, you can leave at any time and we will not chase you.

Do I have to go to church in order to come?
Not at all. We welcome everyone from any background and although one evening addresses faith issues it is not a religious course.
I can’t make all the sessions. Does that matter?
We know people have family and other commitments; just come to as many as you can.
What is Exploring Anxiety and Depression?
We have adapted this course from one that was originally developed by Holy Trinity Brompton and has been used successfully by them for several years.
Can I bring a friend?
Friends can be helpful so if you want to bring a friend please give us a call so we can discuss it.
Do I have to register to come to the group?
Yes please, because we can only take so many people. Email exploringanxietydepression@gmail.com or call Judith on 07906 224 056
