Spinnaker

Spinnaker Trust was established in 1986 by Martin Sweet who felt the Holy Spirit’s draw to serve primary schools in London and the South-east. Spinnaker has been a pioneering ministry since then, paving the way for many Christians to minister to their local schools, and indeed form their own local ministries.

Today (15 March 2020) we continue with the privilege of being ambassadors for Jesus in the primary schools sector. From one person in a handful of schools we are now 10 staff and 50+ Volunteers in 10 London boroughs and towns across the south-east; leading 385 Assemblies and 80 lessons a term with 30,000 children!

Our main work tends to focus on leading children in times of inclusive worship and reflection, leading exploratory and educational activities into the life and teachings of Jesus, providing prayerful and spiritual support to staff and leaderships teams, and training teachers, youth-workers and volunteers in high quality Christian education, values, and ministry.

Our teams work in some of the poorest areas in London, some of the most diverse communities in England, and some of the largest schools in Europe. Whilst we diversify our delivery to respond to the local flavours of our schools, our message of hope, love, joy, peace, and challenge in Jesus Christ remains consistent throughout every aspect of our ministry.

In Epsom right now we are hosting 16 schools in 5 local churches to Experience Easter – through 7 stations from Palm Sunday to the
Resurrection, children can meet with the key figures of the Passion, in the places that all the events happened. They can walk in Jesus  footsteps so that they might understand and wonder about why he walked in ours!

Because of this fantastic opportunity, March is one of our favourite times of the year, but we actually have the great privilege of leading   regular RE Discovery days throughout the year on topics such as Why do Christians Call God Father? and Yr 6 Transition sessions.

Your unexpected, generous and gratefully received donation will pay for the resources and organisation required to run these fantastic Discovery Days and Easter Experiences, and allow us to invest in these programmes further to be rolled out across 70 more schools – THANK YOU!
