10.2.25 Luke 7:11-17

Prepare

Father, You are the giver of life and hope. Help us to trust in Your compassion and power today.

Read – Luke 7:11-17

"Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, 'Don’t cry.'

"Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, 'Young man, I say to you, get up!' The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.

"They were all filled with awe and praised God. 'A great prophet has appeared among us,' they said. 'God has come to help his people.' This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country."

Reflect

Imagine the deep grief of this mother—her only son was gone, and with him, her security and future. But then, Jesus entered her story. He saw her pain, had compassion on her, and did the impossible—He raised her son to life.

Jesus didn’t wait for her to ask for a miracle. He saw her suffering and acted out of love. His power is always accompanied by His compassion. Where do you need to trust in His compassion today? Where do you need to believe that He sees you and is able to bring life where there is loss?

Be

Jesus, help me to see Your compassion in my life today. Remind me that You are near, that You see me, and that You care deeply.

Become

Lord, shape my heart to trust in Your power to bring life to the broken places in me and in those around me.

Do

Today, let’s live knowing that Jesus sees us and cares deeply for us. May we also be His hands and feet, bringing hope and kindness to those in need.

Practice:

Where in your life do you need to trust Jesus to bring new life?

Who around you is hurting and needs to know that Jesus sees them?

How can you reflect the compassion of Jesus to someone today?
