6.1.25 Luke 1:34-38
Prepare
The prophet Samuel said "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening."
Take a moment to be still.
Read – Luke 1:34-38
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.”
“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
Reflect
Imagine being Mary, you’ve just heard from an angel that you’ll be the mom of Jesus and you’ve been told that he will reign forever. You question how and why? The reply is that God will make the impossible happen in you. You feel the weight of those words.
What would you respond? How could you respond?
Before the beauty of what is to come, how could you say no?
Mary didn’t, she couldn’t. She said “I am the Lord’s servant,” and “May your word to me be fulfilled.”
Be
Holy Spirit, would you come to us as you did to Mary.
May we listen to your words and know your will for our lives.
Become
Jesus, may we be willing to offer you all of our lives, everything that we are. We ask that you would shape our longings and desires to match yours. To the point were it is obvious that our reply will always be “May your word to me be fulfilled.”
Do
May the words “I am the Lord’s servant” reflect how we live today. May our attitude and actions reflect the fact that the Holy Spirit lives in us and we’ve chosen to follow you.
Practice:
Why not spend some time listening to what God has for you?
Who are you meeting today that might need an encouragement from God?
What does simply following Jesus look like for you today?
