14.2.25 Luke 8:16-21

Luke 8 v16-21

“Lord thank you that the entrance of your words gives light   Lighten our hearts today  Amen

Reading v 16-21

Reflection

There are  a  series of almost unconnected statements in these verses Lets focus on light

Light is a common figure of speech in Scripture   “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

In northern Galilee there is a hilltop town called Safad  Clearly visible from the shore it would have profoundly illustrated the significance of Jesus’ other famous statement “You are the light of the world  A city set on a hill cannot be hid”

The call here in Luke is for openness not concealment and a reminder to be careful how we listen to God’s word and how we respond to the light

Response

Think of ways that we can understand the light of God word

Is it at times a WARNING LIGHT ….a SEARCHLIGHT…a  LANDING LIGHT (hope and reassurance – it shows us the way home!)

Prayer  Lord Thank you for the gift of your holy word  May it be a lamp to our feet  a light to our path and a strength to our lives “
