Prepare

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.

Read

Luke 10: 17-24

17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.”

18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

21 At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

22 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

23 Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

Reflect

A short reflection on the passage.

The disciples' joy at their successful mission reminds us of the privilege and power of serving in Jesus' name. However, Jesus refocuses their joy not on their accomplishments or authority over spirits, but in the knowledge that their salvation is secure. It’s a reminder that our ultimate joy should come from our relationship with God, not what we do.

This is a reminder for us that we can have joy, just in knowing Him.

Humility and Revelation

In verse 21 Jesus is pouring out his praise to God and highlights to us the value of humility. God reveals himself to those who come to Him with childlike faith, not with arrogance or self-reliance. It encourages us to a life of complete dependence on God's guidance.

The Intimacy of the Trinity

In verse 22 the intimacy between the Father, Holy Spirit and Jesus shows the depth of relationship and trust between them. How wonderful that we are invited to share in that intimacy of relationship with God through Christ.

Be

Take a moment to reflect with gratitude on who God is to you.

Become

Spend a few moments to ask God “How are you shaping my life today? What areas need transforming/ humility or greater joy in you? Allow God to speak to your heart.

Do

Dear God, help us to constantly seek you in everything we do. Help us be in tune with you and only do what you prompt us to do.

Practice

This song has been a great reminder to me that I can have pure joy in knowing who God is.
