Prepare

Lord please help us to know that to be in your presence is the priority for us, and that in this, everything else will fall into place.

Read

Luke 10 : 38-42

At the Home of Martha and Mary

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

Reflect

In verse 41, Jesus shows love and empathy towards Martha, but gently leads her to see what is of real importance, to sit in His presence.  So often we can be distracted by our work life, our families or school.  This passage is a great reminder that amongst all this we need to remember to sit at His feet.

Martha’s frustration is something many of us can relate to feeling overwhelmed, unappreciated, and burdened by the weight of responsibilities. Jesus’ gentle response, “You are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed or indeed only one,” is a loving invitation to let go of anxiety and find peace in Him.

This reminds us that we don’t need to have everything figured out or perfectly prepared to please God. What matters most is our relationship with Him.

Be

Lord, please help us to know when to leave or let go of our to do list, and rest instead, in your peace.

Become

Write on a post it note 3 things that you feel you may be tempted to fret about, and then place it in your bible.

Do

Begin by reading Luke 10:38–42 slowly, paying attention to Jesus' words:

"Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

Ask yourself:

Am I more like Martha worried, distracted, or overly focused on doing?

How can I prioritize sitting at Jesus' feet while still serving others?

Practice

Try this practice:

Set aside specific times each day, even if it’s just 5 minutes, to sit in stillness with Jesus whether through prayer, meditation, or simply resting in His presence.

Prioritize these moments over tasks that might crowd your schedule.
