9.1.25 Luke 1:50-52

Prepare

Psalm 9:1 "I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart."

Take a moment to be still with a thankful heart.

Read – Luke 1:50-52

His mercy extends to those who fear him,

from generation to generation.

He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;

he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.

He has brought down rulers from their thrones

but has lifted up the humble.

Reflect

Mary’s song celebrates God’s mercy and power. She marvels at His ability to reverse human expectations—lifting the humble and bringing down the proud. Imagine the comfort this must have brought Mary, a young, humble servant chosen by God for such a great purpose. She sees His mercy extending to all who revere Him.

Our practice for this term is simplicity. Jesus hasn’t been born yet, but the revolution has already started. He’s not born to a royal or priestly family; he's born from a humble young girl. From generation to generation, his mercy, his values, who he is doesn’t change. He’s looking for people who are humble enough, with their feet on the ground, who recognise the importance of who he is and give him the place he deserves.

Shall we give him the place he deserves in our lives today?

Be

Lord, we thank you for your mercy that spans generations. From generation to generation people have enjoyed being with you. May we always give you the place that you deserve, knowing that you lift up the humble and work mightily in our lives.

Help us give you time and the authority of Lord in our lives

Become

Jesus, shape us into people who live humbly before you, relying on your mercy and power. Change our pride, insecurities, lack of trust, selfishness so that we might be humble like you are.

Do

May Mary’s song inspire us to honour God’s mercy in how we live and act today.

Let us treat others with humility and extend God’s grace wherever we go. Help us not to act differently with different people, but to be authentic.

Practice:

Consider an area of your life where pride might need to give way to humility. Ask God to help you surrender it.

Think of someone who may feel overlooked or lowly today. How can you encourage or lift them up, reflecting God’s heart?

Prayer: Let us continue working on our soul so that we may be humble and live simple lives.
