2.1.25 Luke 1:5-10

Prepare

O God, would you move. I give my heart and life to you.
Take a moment to be still.

Read Luke 1:5-10

In the time of Herod king of Judea there was a priest named Zechariah, who belonged to the priestly division of Abijah; his wife Elizabeth was also a descendant of Aaron. Both of them were righteous in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly. But they were childless because Elizabeth was not able to conceive, and they were both very old.

Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense. 10 And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.

Reflect

Age is just a number! Zechariah and Elizabeth were, according to the bible, very old! But God was not done with them, he called them into their silver service. With hair growing grey and hopes of a family long mourned, God was soon to give them amazing news of using them in a very unexpected way. Life can throw some really tough situations at us, but God always, always, in all things God works for the good of those who love him. John Piper, when going through cancer treatment, wrote a short book called “Don’t waste your cancer”, he then at the age of 72 declared “Don’t waste your retirement”! Whatever we face, whatever our age, God calls us into His purposes.

Be

Let’s spend some time with God reminding ourselves that whatever stage or season of life we are in: He is with us, and He loves us.

Become

What makes you think that could might not be able to use you? Let’s pray that God would remove those doubts and replace them with a confidence in his purpose.

Do

What might God be calling you into? Let’s spend some time asking Him to nudge us in the right direction and listen to Him.

Practice

When faced with an unexpected situation today, how could you try and find God’s purpose in it?
